BEGINNERS AND NEW STUDENTS (minimum age of 12)
Beginners and new students with previous experience are very welcome here at Norwich WTF where we will do our best to introduce you to WTF Taekwondo at our friendly and safe training environment.
We appreciate that beginners often feel slightly nervous or intimidated coming to their first few classes which is why we treat all such students with dignity and respect.
No previous training experience is required and there is no need to get fit before joining our club or just trying it out to see if you like it.
There are also public viewing areas at both of our training venues so please feel free to discreetly turn up and watch a class to see what we do.
Beginners will spend their first night of training being introduced to the basic Taekwondo movements and will not be required to do anything that makes them feel awkward or which may cause injury.
The personal safety of any beginner as with all of our students at Norwich WTF is high on our list of priorities.
Beginners will be gradually introduced to all aspects of WTF Taekwondo and will be developed in their training according to relevant factors such as gender, age, physical ability and any personal training requirements.
At the end of their first training session they will be given a copy of the grading syllabus which sets out the requirements for advancing from white belt through to 9th Kup and onto yellow belt 8th Kup.
They will also be given a copy of the Dojang (training hall) rules, many of which are there for safety reasons.
The first training session will be free of charge although a membership form must be completed at the beginning of the session for insurance purposes.
Full details of membership and training fees will be discussed with students at the end of their first free session should they then wish to continue with their training.
These details can also be obtained from the club secretary prior to attending the free session.
Whilst we welcome anyone to just come along to see what we do, we do insist that contact is made prior to arranging the first free session so that a suitable start date can be agreed as classes often have to be planned.
THE CLUB SECRETARY can be contacted on 07949105562.
GRADINGS
All gradings up to Red belt 1st Kup wll be conducted in Norwich by the club's Chief Instructor.
Successful candidates will then be issued with an BTCB (British Taekwondo Control Board) certificate.
All black belt gradings from 1st Dan and above are taken Nationally through the BTCB. These are usually held 2 or 3 times a year and successful candidates will be issued with a Kukkiwon certificate from Korea. The Dan will then be recognised by the WTF.
HISTORY OF CLUB
Norwich WTF as it is currently called, was formed in the Norwich area back in 1983 by Master Jervis who at that time held the rank of black belt 3rd Dan.
The club has changed venues and name on many occasions since then for various reasons but has always been in the Norwich area.
It has produced a large number of black belts in that time and many of them are still with the club today.
Norwich WTF is ultimately Norfolk's Premier WTF Taekwondo Club.
It's Chief Instructor as an officially WTF recognised 6th Dan with Kukkiwon certification is the highest ranking WTF Black Belt in Norfolk.
The club also has one of the highest numbers of WTF recognised black belts in current membership.
Norwich WTF is a full member of the BTCB who are also affiliated with the BTC (British Taekwondo Council).
The BTCB is the sole Governing body for WTF Taekwondo in Great Britain.
The BTCB is also affiliated to The ETU (European Taekwondo Union) and to the WTF (The World Taekwondo Federation).
This means that for students who are competition minded we can offer access to Junior and Senior National Championships in both Kyorugi (sparring) and Poomse (patterns).
The training at Norwich WTF also covers all aspects of Taekwondo such as self defence, knife defence and breaking techniques etc.
The teaching methods here at Norwich WTF are also designed to help members of any age or ability to develop technically, physically and mentally.
At the same time members are encouraged and helped to set objectives and training principles to help them achieve their own personal goals.
